Throughout the year, B&L continued to deliver for our clients and remained an industry employer of choice for our growing staff, as evidenced by our numerous awards and recognitions. In addition, we are proud to continue enhancing our impact on the communities we live, work, and play in by contributing valuable resources: time, energy, and financial support. Commitment to our Communities

Another mainstay of the firm’s foundation continued as employees invested their time volunteering with industry organizations and working to improve our communities. From volunteering at food banks and meal services for those in need, to our contributions to United Way campaigns and holiday fundraisers and our participation in Earth Day cleanups, B&L staff was there.

Our staff, at all levels, enjoy advising and judging science-based competitions and performing outreach to promote STEM education and careers to school districts and high schools in our service areas. We strive to ignite and nurture the professionals of tomorrow and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in our industry.

Each year, B&L has recognized and financially supported employees through the firm’s Community Service Award. In 2022, the Community Service award supported the Emmaus Ministry in Syracuse, NY to provide much needed funds for dental and medical assistance to the poor, hungry, isolated, and homeless. Also awarded was the Our Companions Animal Rescue & Sanctuary in Manchester, CT which supports an expansion of the sanctuary for new cottages for both cats and dogs, which will include space for physical therapy activities.

New Teammates & Locations

In addition to welcoming over 60 new employees, we also grew our B&L family and geographic footprint through the addition of Eric Horvat and his team from AJC Professional Services, LLC (Pittsburgh, PA), and Tim Bivens and his team from Bivens & Associates Architects, PLLC (Syracuse, NY). With the addition of these outstanding firms, our Facilities Practice Area provides greater depth, experience, and geographic reach. These developments have also led to opening new B&L offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Utica, NY to support our growing employee base and client network.

B&L was again recognized by Zweig Group with the Best Firms to Work For Award. The award recognizes the top multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, planning, and environmental consulting firms in the United States and Canada. This marks the fifth consecutive year B&L has been awarded this recognition, which is based on firm culture, workplace practices, employee benefits, retention rates, and professional development. B&L was also recognized as a “Hot Firm” by Zweig Group as one of the 100 fastest-growing AEC firms in the United States and Canada.

We were pleased to once again be recognized in the ENR Top 500 Design Firms List, moving up 8 spots in the ranking to #285 in the United States. Additionally, B&L broke into the Global ENR Top 200 Environmental Firms List, ranked as the 177th largest environmental consulting firm in the world.

Even as we continue to grow, client experience remains at the heart of everything we do. In 2022, we were honored to be recognized by PSMJ with the Premier Award for Client Satisfaction. Only 10 of these awards are given annually and B&L is proud to be ranked #2 in the nation, which speaks to our ongoing commitment of putting client satisfaction first!
